A memorandum "Migrant Elders across Europe - from Challenges to Opportunities" will be compiled which is intended to alert the EU Member States, the regions, the cities and NGOs in Europe and other stakeholders at the European level to the new age profile and hence to the cultural, social and economic opportunities inherent in the growing number of migrant elders.
Part of the Memorandum will focus on developing principles addressing these issues. The principles are designed to help test policy proposals dealing with the increase in both the number and the social and economic importance of migrant and minority ethnic elders.. The principles should seek to balance issues such as Human Rights and anti-discrimination policy with community cohesion and economic and cultural development goals.
All actors in the filed of migrant elders are invited to contribute their experience towards a common understanding of the new opportunities. The first draft of the Memorandum was presented by the organisers during the last day of the first European Conference, and was adopted by the delegates.
The final draft will be presented during a special press conference at the end of the project in autumn 2009.
