At the end of the conference on "Migrant Elders across Europe – from Challenges to Opportunities", the participants consentaneous adopted the so-called "Bonn - Memorandum: Active Ageing of Migrant Elders across Europe".
This position paper acknowledges that Europe benefits from migrant elders and their lifetime achievements. It also states that with improving the integration and participation of this particular group, new economic, cultural and social opportunities will arise. To achieve this, a new and positive consciousness must be brought into being in all sectors of society. Also, the improvement of migrant elders’ quality of life and the amplification of culturally sensitive services and products are needed. Thus, adequate framework conditions must be created on a European, national and local level.
The first draft of the "Bonn - Memorandum: Active Ageing of Migrant Elders across Europe" was presented by Dr. Christof Eichert, Ministry of Intergenerational Affairs, Family, Women and Integration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Düsseldorf, Germany.
